Located inside La Pelanda in the Mattatoio di Roma complex, the La Pelanda Study Room is a space dedicated to study, reading and sharing in the heart of the Testaccio district. The study room was created as part of an urban and cultural regeneration project that transforms the former slaughterhouse into a true “City of Arts”, connecting spaces for research, education and cultural engagement.
The study room is managed by Azienda Speciale Palaexpo, which runs La Pelanda on behalf of Roma Capitale, in continuity with the historic neighbourhood library to which this space serves as a complementary venue The study room is part of the network of study rooms promoted in museums and cultural spaces throughout the city, helping to expand the range of study rooms in Rome accessible to students, residents and young creatives. In this way, the Mattatoio confirms itself not only as a venue for exhibitions and festivals, but also as a daily hub for those seeking a quiet environment to study and work.
Located in the Galleria delle Bilance, the study room sits within an industrial archaeology architectural context of approximately 5,000 square metres, characterised by large naves, metal structures and extensive glass surfaces that enhance volumes and perspectives. Within this setting, the 28 study workstations and 6 reading seats offer an intimate environment embedded in a place with a strong visual identity, ideal for concentrating while feeling part of a broader cultural ecosystem.
The La Pelanda Study Room is designed as a sociocultural reference point for residents of Municipalities I, VIII and XII and for students from all over the city. Its proximity to Piramide metro station and location in an area with a strong cultural vocation make this space a natural hub between everyday life and cultural offerings. Access is free, without booking and until all study places are taken, with free Wi-Fi and full accessibility for people with disabilities, ensuring inclusive and open use.
Studying at La Pelanda means being able to interweave time dedicated to books with the experience of a cultural complex in constant transformation, hosting exhibitions, festivals, performances and artistic residencies in the various spaces of the Mattatoio.
